My favorite part was when she got fed up with her restricting dress and just busted it open at the seams.

Ooh, thanks for the info!
I am so excited for this movie. The scene at the Disney website just made me more excited.
Because it was all about the Glory for the Careers, and they'd been training most of their lives for the Games. Even with Katniss' tesserae she barely had enough to feed her family, and she had to supplement that with what she got from hunting. There wasn't any "wealth" to be had from collecting tesserae, and IIRC…
I thought the tesserae system was one of the most interesting things in the book when I first read it. These people are all living in poverty, for the most part, and the government punishes those who are the worst off by making them put their name in more times for food to feed their families.
Nope. The first time I saw a picture of one I thought it had to be fake or a trick of perspective, but those suckers are REAL.
So glad to finally see this article! Although the comments seem to be going the same way as usual.
It's not that absurd to accept that Collins might not have been aware of BR. It's very well-known in geeky circles, but I don't think it's very well-known to Americans in general. Collins has always said she got the idea for THG when she was flipping through TV stations at night and skipping from footage of war to…
If they'd somehow depicted The Little Mermaid with bloody feet or killing herself and becoming sea foam, you might have a point. But those things wouldn't be sexy, would they? These photos have nothing to do with the original stories, thus your point is moot.
It's disturbing because rather than taking on the content of the actual fairy tales, they just took a woman dressed as each princess, made her lie face down on the floor, and pulled up her skirt. They all look like rape victims, and it's clear that it was done to be titillating. THAT'S what's gross about it. There are…
It's true that the originals were gory and disturbing, but I've read many of them. Cinderella and The Little Mermaid, for example, are plenty violent but not sexual in nature. If the point of the photoshoot was to do modern takes on the original fairy tales, that would be one thing, but that's clearly not the…
I thought of that ANTM shoot immediately, too. If ANTM has done it, it's officially not edgy or clever.
Exactly. The skirts being hiked up around every single girl's waist really bothers me.
I'm glad images of women who have apparently been raped and murdered are "fun" for you.
Yeah, that is not okay. Especially the way nearly all of them are positioned with their skirts hiked up around their legs. Some of the original fairy tales (like Red Riding Hood and Beauty and the Beast) have sexual overtones to them to begin with, but this is just disturbing.
If you liked Winter's Bone, you'll like The Hunger Games. Different situation but Katniss is basically the same character.
Movie ratings =/= book categorizations. I've seen everything from Stephen King to V.C. Andrews to Shakespeare shelved under YA. Lots of that material would not be considered PG-13 when made into a movie. Also consider that "young adult" includes books for 12-year-olds and books for 18-year-olds. The Hunger Games…
What??? You mean The Hunger Games is not the first book or movie in history to feature teens fighting to the death?!
I'm kind of hoping that after the first one they'll change their minds and go for the R, if only so that by the time Finnick and Johanna are introduced they can be in all their naked glory.
BUTTERCUUUUP!
