Those people are probably just trying to help.

There is no problem to be solved. This is a discussion forum meant for discussion. I hope that helps.

I find them correlated. And I was jk about supporting the cheerleaders. It’s just an argument I’ve heard, that you can’t oppose the existence of cheerleaders in pro sports without being hateful and unsupportive of those women. I think most of those women are probably awesome. I don’t think they belong - to your point

Exactly.

Yeah, right. Women are not supposed to be eating that shit unless they’re skinny! If they’re fat it’s disgusting!

I get that’s what you think; I simply disagree. I think dedicating an issue of a sports magazine to nude women is damaging enough to wipe out whatever good you feel they do. It’s nude women I saw and heard about on the Today show this morning; I didn’t see the same level of hype about that piece on the female athlete

Whatever positive things the magazine is doing to promote the idea that women are people, they’re wiping it out with this ridiculous issue. In my opinion. And probably also in scientific facts.

Not exactly. If women in every organization in every field were fairly compensated, men’s wages would have to be affected. There would be a leveling-out. Without underpaid workers, there wouldn’t be overpaid ones. Without losers, there aren’t winners.

Very little could mean a wide range of things. I thought the portion of the gender gap that could not be attributed to things like education, performance, tenure, etc., was around 3-6%. That’s not insignificant when applied to annual wages. Even 1% would not be insignificant.

Students need to be (mandatory) counseled before taking on debt for college. Many (if not most) 18-year-olds do not have experience dealing with loans, debt, and repayment and do not understand what they are signing up for. They also don’t have the understanding of what their adult income will realistically look like,

As my (high school sophomore) “little sis” once explained, “I like the Kardashians because - you know- they’re like good businesswomen and stuff.” I fear these people really are here to stay. Maybe we will get some reprieve once Kendall and Kylie reach 40-ish. But by that time, the babies will already be on the scene.

It IS passé! Thank you.

Well, for most being thin is difficult. So the fear is that if we destigmatize fatties, everyone is going to just give up the struggle and get fat. Right now, the shame and ridicule hurled at women is the only thing keeping them in check.

Fact: 99% of the people making that point are overweight males.

She’s still valuable because some people find that sexy and she has nice boobs. If that’s not progress, I don’t know what is.

I think it being touted as awesome is pretty lame. It being naked women in a magazine about sports.

But if you don’t like the swimsuit edition, you aren’t a good feminist because you aren’t supporting these women. See also: pro sports “cheerleaders.”

I don’t agree. It’s a sports magazine. It should cover sports. Having an annual issue dedicated to nearly-naked (and actually naked) women is pathetic, irrelevant, and insulting. It wouldn’t matter if it was 1 in 100.

Remind me again what either has to do with sports.

What would really be groundbreaking is not seeing semi-nude or nude women featured in a magazine about sports. And further hearing it praised as inspiration for little girls who are maybe sort of fat but still really beautiful and with nice boobs.
