Sweet, sweet, idyllic Canadian countryside non-drama is the proper antidote to this shit year. I am READY.

They’ll probably all get the accents totally wrong, too. I wonder if producers are afraid of portraying an accent closer to that of PEI as it is, now. Maybe they don’t think it would appeal to Americans enough? The current accent certainly didn’t evolve over 136 years, from an enunciated Torontonian accent. It may not…
There is the other side that gets more annoying and patronizing—this idea that these writers knew better what life was like in Montgomery’s era and that somehow Montgomery got her own character wrong. Plus, even in Montgomery’s version childhood friends died of now preventable diseases, father figures dropped dead in…
I won’t even acknowledge these other AOGG adaptions. Nothing could ever be as great as the original CBC miniseries of the 80's. Nothing, no one, ever. Ever.
Yes. There is an innocence around the Anne books that I find really lovely. It always felt like Montgomery was writing a bit of an ideal life for herself - not perfect or without hard times, but with an uncompromisingly happy main character whose strength comes from always seeing the glass half full. Life may have…
I too am narrowing my eyes judgementally at them. I mean, if you want to do a hyper-realistic, gritty of a girl in a frontier town just before the turn of the last century do it, but don’t drag a beloved children’s character into it. That’s Janey from Lonesome Dove, not Anne of Green Gables.
It was ok but not as good as the original movies. I really feel for these adaptions because I think a lot of things came together with that series that just can’t be reproduced. From actors/actresses to writing to filming in PEI the first two movies were just magic. No one can play Marilla Cuthbert the way Colleen…
This is the only reason I’m getting a Netflix account. Don’t judge me.
I donno why, but that American accent on Martin Sheen is making me very angry.
(and now to reply to myself...) I really hate when book adaptations are all depressing and dreary. I feel like I’m always trying to watch some BBC adaptation or something or other and all of the fun of the original book is sucked out. That’s not always the case, but I’ve been bothered by it too often recently :/
I bawled the first time I read AoGG as an adult. As a kid I was focused on the high jinx, but grown-up was overcome with sadness for this lonely, abandoned little kid and her harsh life (until around chapter 4). It sounds like they’re not going for the kid’s eye-view, but like you, I hope this version isn’t too “edgy.”
I’m so excited for this adaptation! I hope they don’t make it too depressing though... (from that quote, it’s hard to tell) That actress looks adorable.
No one can ever replace Megan Follows. If I’m not un-greyed for this truth bomb alone, there is no justice in the world.
