I don’t get why my saying “you shouldn’t tell teenagers not to think about the consequences of their actions” reads as “this kid deserves what he got” to you.

The commentor didn’t say that AT ALL. They are questioning the statement in the article, and I agree. The statement is literally saying that high school students SHOULD be doing actions without thinking of the potential consequences.

This is bad, but telling high school students that they shouldn’t think about the consequences of their actions is very bad advice.

The charges in this case are clearly excessive, but that’s not my issue.

It was the sort of thing a high school kid might do without thinking of the potential consequences, which is to say the sort of thing a high school kid should be doing.

They’re Americans, with American passports - their “country of origin” is America. Why would they bring up their parent’s or their grandparent’s nationality in front of me or the other passengers? You don’t really care about empathising with this children, you only want to dismiss experiences of racism and bigotry.
