Did you actually just tell me I was full of shit and then ask for my advice about something?

And I didn’t post “no one gives a shit about your opinion,” because I am not a rude asshole except to rude assholes. Stating that your opinion is not fact does not equal ridiculing it.

Dead on. Theon cock gets cut off but whoooa now we’ve gone too far? There’s rape in just about every series of Masterpiece Theater this year but now we’re upset?

The scene was perfectly fine, just idiots with opinions looking for something to whine about.

People will dislike the viewpoint but the scene was masterfully shot to both let the audience know the brutality and at the same time spare them and the actors involved the worst of it.

That is not how filmmaking works. Just because the camera is focused on something does not mean that it is the only thing going on in the scene. No, the wording was not vague; I explictly detail what “purpose” means in a couple of different places.

I think that the show’s reputation for graphic sex is overstated, especially in relation to the graphic non-sexual violence, and that people who complain that every rape scene is gratuitous are simply wrong. Anyone who insists that the rape scenes are meant to be titillating is saying more about themselves than they

Absolutely agree with you. The scene left me horrified but given the characters in the scene, it made sense. I also appreciate no sexy composition. It was a horrible scene, and not sexy. I still don't understand people's reaction.

I agree on all points. Great post.

I really don’t understand the outrage regarding this scene; how is it worse than any of the other depictions of rape and brutality we’ve seen thus far?

For some time I’ve wondered why it is that so many people seem to think that the rapes on GoT are purely gratuitous or solely meant to exploitative, considering how many people are also injured, tortured and killed. It’s an interesting inversion, really. For in the real world, murder isn’t nearly as common as rape is,
