As a PC gamer I adapted to this over a decade ago.  It was clear when this generation of consoles had a disk free version that this was the way it was going to go.  That being said,  Microsoft has really done a good job keeping as much playable as possible with new hardware.  There are purchases I made in the 360 era

Released in February 2023, Hogwarts Legacy wasn’t a hit with critics and ended up not winning many major awards.

Yeah sure, 84/85 metacritic but “wasn’t a hit with critics” 😄

Wait, are you all suggesting that online popularity contests *aren’t* a good means of judging actual merit?

*gasp*

Cause these things are voted on by Chuds obsessed with the lulz.

This might sound like a dumb question.. but how many of these releases each day are actually meant to be, well, games people expect to sell?

What I’m saying is.. couldn’t a lot of these be things like student projects getting published? Either as the end of the course, or just someone who made it in a course and

Pretty much. The idea that “it’s just hacking” is short-sighted and foolish when we live in a society where connected systems can literally be life-or-death affairs. Yeah, this time he hacked R* this time - but what if it had been a hospital? If he’s not capable of remorse and exhibited violence in custody, he’s a

Dude what??  Hacking has potentially devastating consequences.  It should not be a slap on the wrist crime.

Did you not read the article, or did you just read the headline and come to comment. This was more than just “hacking” as there appears to be allegations of extortion. The suspect has full on admitted he wants to reoffend, and will more than likely reoffend any chance he gets. How in the world, would house arrest

Eh...maybe.

There’s the cylindrical “refresh” coming next year.

I’ve never liked that dude. An industry shill only wanting attention and making The Game Awards out to be the biggest ego stroke with the only other person he is willing to share any ounce of limelight with being Kojima. It is cringeworthy at this point.

It’s where the money comes in, and with no E3, I’m sure people threw a bunch at him to make it about product over awards.

That’s not necessarily true. Has CoD ever won anything at TGA? LoL? Fortnite? The indie categories are neither the biggest nor the most successful games either.

I think it’s telling how seriously the “awards show” aspect is taken when you’ve got plenty of celebrity appearances hocking their upcoming projects/products for minutes at a time, while the folks winning the awards are quickly ushered off stage.

That’s not to say celebrities don’t belong on the Game Awards stage; just

Hell, just last year Take-Two lost a case with a tattoo artist over Randy Orton’s tattoos in any one of the WWE games. And the outcome of that case that (a) yes, Take-Two infringed on the copyright of the tattoos, and (b) replicating the tattoos had no material impact on the game other than a visual element. Total

You are wildly out of step with the modern world.

Eh, even if they have intent to sell, I’m still with Rafi on this one.

at the same time - missing your goals by 45% is pretty insane.

Destiny 2 is six years old. Most people have moved on to something else. Make a new IP or Destiny 3 at this point.
