As a legal construction “actually innocent” is very dangerous. It enables a semi-official cloud of suspicion to hang over those who have been acquitted. It also enables the state to avoid culpability for wrongful conviction.

YOU know that and WE know that but, given how crooked their criminal justice system is, the taxpayers of Texas just can’t afford it.

What is this “actually innocent” fuckery? If your conviction is overturned, you’re right back at “innocent until proven guilty.” There’s no “double chocolate innocent with whipped cream and sprinkles.” Innocent is innocent.
