The entire premise of the joke is that Timothy Chalamet is a young, hot person and she is an old person. That joke is pretty banal (minus if it’s cool or not to call a random person hot). If you don’t bring up his age, there’s no joke.

As a suicide prevention advocate and a suicide loss survivor, I urge you to follow guidelines about reporting on suicide, which include not including method of death, especially in a headline: http://reportingonsuicide.org/
“Mystery of Love” is beautiful and perfect and if it loses the Oscar to that crap song from The Greatest Showman I will lose my shit.
I enjoyed it when James Woods was being sanctimonious on Twitter about how the film was indecent, and Armie Hammer pointed out that Woods dated a 19-year-old when he was 60.
That 7 year age difference isn’t an issue to Europeans as this book and movie is set in Italy after all and I think most people outside of Europe know Europeans are much more liberal when it comes to sexuality.. But the hypocrisy is astounding to behold where you see these conservatives attempting to disguise their…
Getting back to you a bit late. I find it interesting what sets off a moral alarm in people. Movies are frequently sympathetic to thieves and serial killers, but we don’t say those are immoral. Superhero movies frequently make heroes out of people who commit torture, war crimes, and invasions of privacy in the name…
Absolutely not. This film doesn’t become unproblematic because the 17 year old is depicted as the pursuer any more than I Love You Daddy becomes ok because Chloe Moretz 18 year old character pursues John Malkovich or other multiple female characters insist that it will do her no harm.
Spoilers:
I’m not sure of what “pose the question” means to you. The film does have the older character express that he doesn’t ever want the younger one to “regret” the relationship or feel that it “messed him up.” As for why the older character falls in love—the film has a lot of scenes of them talking, flirting,…
It sounds like you haven’t even seen the film.
I don’t want to spoil anything, but if you saw it, you wouldn’t think that way.
The film doesn’t make any reference whatsoever to the 7-year age difference between them. I’ve seen it twice and, until I started reading online comments, it never even occurred to me that it was an issue.
In Italy, where the movie is set and where I come from, the age of consent is 14. The protagonist is 17 and Oliver is 24.
Satanic Church:
Old-school usenet style and trolling, and trolling of bigots and hypocrites, but yeah they’re doing good work.
Wut?
They aren’t really “trolls”, are they? They are fighting against people using religious freedom laws to discriminate against people and create a theocracy. I think of a troll as someone who doesn’t actually have a point of view or care about an issue, but just tries to get people riled up for their own amusement.
I don’t like that they are “in curious company: nightmare right-wing troll trio Roger Stone, Milo Yiannopoulos and Chuck C. Johnson” per this article.
Twitter represents the worst of the Internet and of humanity. I’m 100% done with twitter and deleted my account.
Satanic Temple makes me happy. I love smart, clever people.
What a brave, wonderful man.
