Thank you for this. I’ve been scouring the internet and NO ONE seems to even be attempting to get into the law behind it beyond “there was a treaty from 1851 and the government is ignoring it and they’re pure blackhearted evil”. I would love - *love* - to actually get a full legal breakdown of both side’s arguments

Unfortunately, he has no executive mechanism that allows him to stop the situation without the cooperation of other branches of government, with any hope of making it stick. I know there’s been a lot of conversation about the possibility of an executive order but the Trump administration will likely unwind it.

The one I’ve seen has Gord calling him a pussy. So enraging on so many levels. Denigrating to Gord (who is, truly, an admirable man/poet/performer/human), to Kanye (getting help for mental illness should never be seen as weakness) to women in general (pussy=woman=weak, FUCK THAT NOISE) and to anyone who’s ever

Why would he get any money? Wouldn’t the insurance for that kind of thing go toward refunding the tickets/paying the venue?

Poor Kanye. I spent two weeks in the psych ward over Christmas last year, they don’t keep people on big holidays unless it is serious. I’m a bit of a Kanye stan, so I am really pulling for him, and I hope the non-fans can treat this situation with the respect it deserves, mental illness is no joke.

It is the gerund of pathologize, meaning to regard someone as psychologically abnormal. It is a subject of much debate within the mental health world.

I see both a lot of empathy for Kanye and disdain for Lena in this thread, when their behavior is similar. Why is everyone assuming Lena also doesn’t suffer from mental illness?

But if she hadn’t said anything, people would have bitched about that. “Lena said she was moving to Canada, but I guess it was all talk. Typical Lena, I can’t stand her!”

You know what causes sleep deprivation? A major manic episode. It makes a dude tell anyone who will listen that you are a genius on par with Gates, Jobs, Musk, Einstein, and the almighty.

I haven’t seen that but it just made me rage at my desk.

Given that he just released a huge album and was in the middle of a super-profitable tour, I have no idea.

Let’s lay off Lena Dunham and the “moving to Canada” crowd a little. I am very, extremely aware that if my husband’s grandfather hadn’t said “Fuck this, I’m out” after Hitler was elected in 1933, his family wouldn’t exist.

Was just coming here to say the same thing.

Just want to get ahead of any stigmatizing/inaccurate language that might come up in the wake of Kanye’s hospitalization.

Good job there trivializing mental illness.

Trump might be sending shockwaves across the pond, basically energizing racist assholes everywhere. France and Germany have elections coming up and I’m scared for who might win those. Guess this election cycle is over ever.

Because you’re an asshole.

There’s a gross meme going around my facebook feed with a side-by-side of Kanye and Gord Downie (who recently completed a tour with the Tragically Hip, plus 4-5 solo shows, while battling terminal brain cancer) with Kanye captioned with “I’m too tired to tour” and Gord’s caption saying “Awwh, why don’t you have a

Same, although my failure to make good on it so far has more to do with the fact that I was planning to move to Europe, where I have citizenship, but it now seems like we (by which I mean my Jewish/Arabic family) are screwed pretty much everywhere right now.

it actually doesn’t cost that much to immigrate to canada. you can easily google it. that said, you’ll probably need a job or a spouse in the country. but that’s really on you, and not necessarily a matter of “resources” or wealth. just brains.
