I disagree. I’m sober and I don’t mind when people use mind altering substances during their leisure time any more than I mind sober people. Probably far less, frankly. Yeah - we all know that person who thinks they are exactly the same when they drink a bottle of wine. See also: the person who claims they are a better driver drunk.

I have never understood people who drink THE MAXIMUM. I am probably a 2-3 drinks person at most social events, so I’m not coming at it from a sober standpoint like you, but it still baffles me. I guess I just lack that impulse, I don’t know.

What about advice from Tom Scocca, who—judging by this post—is fifty years old and your cool pastor?

That’s not a fatal flaw. If everyone took the advice, none of us—sober or 2 drinks in—would have to hang out with sloppy drunks.

As a zero drinks person for several years now, the visible difference between the 2 drinks people and the “as many drinks as possible” people is obvious, astounding and off-putting. I was a “why drink a beer when you can drink ALL the beers” kind of a guy for years. You have no idea how gross it looks until you see it…
