I believe euphemisms are used so much in the US because it was founded by prudes. Look at how PC everything keeps getting. No one wants their feelings hurt and no one wants to feel uncomfortable.

It may be because the majority of the "iPad killers" run Android. People may have opted to just get an Android phone rather than an Android tablet. The convenience might have won out.
