AND best sounding. Especially in it's original, unrestricted, V12 glory.

This.

Agreed that no car is inherently perfect, but homologations for LeMans and other racing sort of don't count in this argument. Any car is going to need some level of modification from its "road" spec to the spec raced on track. The rules of the series force these things to happen.

To me, F1 has just become Super Mario Kart over the past 5 years. I think RadioLeMans said it best last year when they called it "the world's most expensive spec series." The rules have relegated all REAL innovation into obscurity, so now we freak out when a team shows up to a race with an "N-Duct Super-Blown

I've got two suggestions:

Unless you (and your wallet) want to learn the intimate details of every single bolt, nut , and gasket under the hood... no.

Having campaigned a 944 in ChumpCar for the last year and a half... I can only imagine the number of problems with the other half of that engine attached....

Damn, you could probably make an awesome racetrack out of that Montreal Airport....

There is an SAE Technical paper floating around where the performance figures of that Honda V6 are laid out in detail, from the 1987 and 1988 seasons. In qualifying trim, and 4 bar of boost, it could crank out 1,200 hp... from a 1.5L V-6.

The fact that they had the Audi and Aucura LMP cars tail the camera car makes this win.

They DID have to make 25 road-going versions of the original, as per the rules at the time. And Porsche famously tried to wiggle out of that by showing the inspectors (who were there to make sure the 917 wasn't vaporware), SOME completed road-going models, and a bunch of parts, arguing along the lines that they were

While the Porsche 924 quickly gave way to its updated brother, the 944, the 924 saw some success at LeMans and in Rallying in 1981

ANY of CART's 240+ mph beasts?

The 500 this year was the best in decades. For sure.
