True... but most people already leave their GPS systems still mounted to the windshield. What’s one more? :)

I would be up for the job as a driver to test emissions on new vehicles for the EPA! :)

I have a friend who works in Wolfsburg and he mentioned the same thing - that this is how all auto companies get through emissions testing and it’s standard practice. Also, that VW Dieselgate is just the tip of the iceberg with regard to the entire auto industry.

Ah, no no, my bad. I see how the phrasing could be confusing. I meant that from your perspective, the monthly Apple installments tag on to your already existing AT&T expenses. But you pay Apple separately from AT&T - it’s not quite clear how you pay Apple but I’m guessing it’s just through the card in your iTunes/App

Took Greyhound as a student (because cash, duh!) in the northern mid-west. Never looked forward to them and never liked ‘em. Switched to Amtrak, even though it meant I had to walk for 45mins to the station in -14°C with windchill at 5am. And the train stopped for like 10mins at 6am [it was generally late but once, it

The title image in the original linked blog is an absolutely awesome picture! Btw, is that Monument Valley?

Nice one, to avoid an NSFW rating :)

Yeah, me too... With the Friday evening traffic, my journey from Irvine would become quite an ordeal! Definitely won’t be there by 5:30 :)

While that certainly saves you money on a dash cam, there are some advantages of using a dedicated cam, chief among which is storage space. Also, you can leave the cam in the car and not worry about mounting it every time you start driving. Things like automatic G-sensor and date-time overlay, speed info are extra

Yeah, it shouldn’t - I asked an AT&T rep. It just tags the installments you pay Apple to whatever you already pay AT&T. So, for me, it would’ve been [$62+Apple’s installment]. You also have to pay a $45 charge to AT&T but it’s easy to get that waived. I didn’t like the added $36/mo for a 2yr lease from Apple... so, I

I just stuck to the old, archaic 2yr contract for my AT&T order of a subsidized 6S. It was the only way to keep the “unlimited” data, more so with the new 22gb “limit”. For $62/mo (after discounts, single line), it’s actually cheaper than their Next and Apple’s plan - even if I include the $120 Apple Care as a

Yeah, I read that but I didn’t realize EPA paid heed to others... TIL! :) But yes, 10x-40x NOx is a big difference.

So, Mr.Expert, since you seem to have read every damn thing, enlighten me as to how the ECU made the emissions fall within the acceptable range? Yeah, real-world testing ended up with 10x-40x of NOx relative to lab tests but what did the ECU do? That’s what I’m more interested in - change fuel-air ratios, timing,

Thanks, I’ll read up on the Bloomberg piece, theirs is quite good generally. But I was more interested in what technical parameters the “cheat mode” changed to make the results fall within the acceptable window.

So, how did EPA find out that there was a secret “Test Mode”?

Vortex tubes... spoilers... spray from thrust reversers... hnnng. I’ve had a crisis.

Cost - initial setup & maintenance. ‘course they Boeing & Airbus would’ve thought about it and brushed it off in their cost analysis but with the clause that pilots touch down parallel to the centerline. Pilots are trained that way, so the additional cost of a one-time lapse is quite high.

I saw one on the I-5 on way to San Deigo. Fortunately for me (unfortunately for him), traffic was all backed up, as usual, and I got to appreciate its design for almost 30mins... and hear its burbles at idle. It’s so good to look at in person.

I haven’t been a fan of MB’s new design ethos - the sort-of melted down front fascia & abstract-shaped headlight designs... I liked the definite lines in the older E or C or S classes. But, this AMG GT just looks fantastic! I like everything about its design and all the panels are so clean - no angular junk at all.

This was a fantastic narration! Thanks for the great write-up, as usual. Btw, when he talks about either the pilot or RIO calling an abort on the maneuver, what do they do - just get control of the Tomcat and maintain level flight or is there a particular exit strategy for each maneuver?
