I have dropped dozens of hours into it and am still having a blast, personally. For a game with ‘no content’ I have an almost completely different experience every time I play depending on who I play with and who I run into.

Im people, and I love these ramdom stuff

the stories you will make on your road to legend.

As a player? Probably not. As a pirate, that’s a whole other story.

Most of the complaints Ive seen are from people upset that he doesn’t even know how to play the game. One clip that stands out to me was him getting flustered that a smaller ship was attacking him and he had no idea how to load the cannon or how to defend or repair his ship.

Amen, amen, amen. Stakes and world-building. EQ was magical because it was this sprawling, diverse world with places you belonged and places you *really* didn’t. If you started as an elf on Faydwer, it might take you 10 or 15 levels to get across the Ocean of Tears. You might wander up from Freeport and get ganked by

I think there needs to be a level of grind to create the feeling of reward. I actually still really enjoy wandering around FFXI once in awhile... though it will never be the same. I miss it.

Didn’t play EQ before, but that sounds like stuff that UO did too. Being a murderer/pvp player was really an infamous thing. They formed actual ‘gangs’, they had their own city where anything goes, and basically formed their own personas. Why? They didn’t get any specific game designed rewards from it (systematically

The MMO genre is basically dead. Its a graveyard of greedy publishers who all thought they could copy/paste WoW’s profits. Its sad, because WoW disrupted the genre so successfully that it redefined the genre, and in doing so, ultimately monopolized and killed all of its competition.

dude it’s a game

Some random did something the same to me and a mate at the weekend, except he trolled immediately. We then voted him to the brig, but before repairing the holes, let the ship fill with enough water to cover the brig, leaving him to repeatedly drown. He wouldn’t leave and hung around in this cycle of death for 30 mins

Sorry, my keyboard was broken and I was taking the treasure to a nearby orphanage.

You’re getting a lot of hate, son. I for one appreciate this behavior, especially in a game about pirates! Pirates have no code, they don’t owe anybody anything. Keep on pirating, it’s how you play a game about pirates...

I joined a galleon that had 2 people on it and was almost immediately thrown into the brig despite using voice and text chat to say hi and ask what the plan was. In return for their dickishness I shot the gun powder crates they had stored below deck.

Nice Crime Patrol avatar!

Things are never going to be Utopian when PvE and PvP are mixed together. That is part of the thrill though - the tension filled truces while players who have just met co-op for a while.

I make my guys hold their fire when we encounter ships. I find more joy in the friendly interactions with people, and the initial distrust is always pretty intense. Granted, sometimes it goes straight to all out war, but I want there to be a chance.

No, the refusal to accept that our mental health is something that we have the ability to control and impact and instead the instance on treating anyone who is experiencing negative feelings as if they are just ‘weak’ - up until you are the one dealing with it - is why people make fun of millennials.

Exactly, fuck people trying to become better at emotional regulation. Be perfect straight out of the womb or go kill yourself.

Yes, hah hah dude had to use a therapist’s tool.
