I always thought Fraser would have made a great Superman.
I always thought Fraser would have made a great Superman.
And before that he was typecast as a studly naïf in such films as Encino Man, Blast From the Past, George of the Jungle, Airheads, Dudley Do-Right…
Fraser was always good at brooding, quiet characters (Gods and Monsters, The Quiet American) but he got typecast as The Mummy-ish hank. That was his misfortune I guess.
Ray Liotta and Brendan Fraser in the same movie? Talk about a showdown of two guys who shoulda had way better careers. Hope this leads them to more/better stuff. Though I have thoroughly enjoyed Fraser in Doom Patrol.
And a very scary blackmailer in the largely overlooked 52 Pick-Up
TPMS sensors don’t last the life of any car.
I’d say the boner came with The Newsroom, which came out a year after Moneyball.
Grisham was HUGE at the time. I’d argue more people that went to movies knew his name than Coppola’s during that era.
Oh, god, you’re right about Sorkin. I like to think of his modern dialogue as being in the “What yuppies think they sound like at dinner parties” genre.
Obligatory Alternate Picks For This Week’s Theme Post:
Makes sense to me:
Grisham was definitely a very big deal, but by this point, IIRC, five other Grisham adaptations had come out without the possessive poster credit, and I believe Coppola has spoken about wanting to credit novelists heavily when he adapts them. The Outsiders has on-screen text about the eighth grade teacher/class that…
Came here to post this. Also, the space between 10 and 25 represents 15 mph. But it’s a smaller space than the 15 mph between 25 and 40. Unless the speedometer actually had gearing changes at 25 mph, it’s not even remotely accurate at low speeds.
Well, in fairness to the designers...
You don’t really need to be able to easily/quickly tell the difference between 5mph and 15mph. If you’re where that kind of speed is appropriate - for example a parking lot - then speed limits don’t really apply (despite whatever signage the business puts up) and what you really…
As a big fan of the original Law and Order and a fan to a lesser degree of Criminal Intent, I’ve always been of the opinion that SVU is a trashy soap opera that Dick Wolfe must have known would get great ratings and continue to pay for his other shows
Thank you for having the patience and knowledge to explain this. This isn’t just some stupid cat fight like Benevolus wants to make it out because one girl is ‘Pretty and nice and helping bees!” Disney Princess Bee Remover is providing a false narrative that could hurt an already decimated bee population and people…
That’s just a lot of not-great work to keep Timothy Olyphant’s nonunion equivalent on screen, rather than just hiring an old actor for the scenes when he’s old. Kinda perverse to hire a middle aged guy to play his character as a twentysomething and centenarian, knowing we probably wouldn’t get to the point his…
Finneas really only seems to be brought up when people want to take credit away from Billie.
Alternatively, do people actively have personal feelings towards him? Seems like a huge waste of time.
We have created an asperational american mythology that we all could be rich someday. And we have done so for a very long time well over 100 years. We are raised believing the mertiocracy means the best people are the rich ones otherwise they would not be rich. I disagree but that is the poison of the lie of meritocrac…
