Every self checkout I have ever used requires placing every item purchased on the approximately 2 foot square scale and leaving it there until the end of the transaction.

#1 rule: Do not use it. If you don’t like it, insist on using the employee operated registers.

There’s just something to the entire arc that isn’t holding together for me. I know part of it is that there are elements - Nadja rediscovering her Antipaxos heritage, f’r instance - that could easily have been great stories on their own.
