From what I’ve heard via some friends in southern California, one of the best assistant-style gigs is housesitter for top-tier musicians. They’re gone for large chunks of the year, and your job is to basically feed pets,periodically clean the place and keep shit from falling apart.
The Simpsons (post season 9 or so) are a great/terrible example of this. According to some interviews, those lingering reaction shots or explanations of jokes are a very effective time-filler. Why put 22 minutes of material into one episode when you can dilute it into three episodes?
