I don't understand this. The levers were supposed to be pulled at mach 1.4, but instead were pulled early at mach 1.0? So they were supposed to be pulled while accelerating? That seems unlikely. And I thought the problem happened because the levers were pulled while going too fast, causing structural failure, so again…

My guess is that the rotating grill rotates venetian blind-style, since a normal grill is primarily characterized by being full of openings for air, and thus not especially bulletproof.
