Fair enough point. From a general discourse perspective I think it’s important to be “fair” but from the perspective of a solution it’s a different story.

I understand the point but it’s a little too dismissive for me. If we haven’t reached the point where we can program a computer to differentiate between a pedestrian about to run in front of the vehicle vs “in another lane,” these cars have no place on the road. I think that’s a pretty low line.

It’s tough to assign 100% fault to anyone. The victim definitely did something stupid — the epidemic of people walking in front of moving vehicles assuming they will stop is bound to end badly in some cases. But the point of automated cars is that they don’t “stop paying attention” so the car software (or hardware)…

How does what you pay compare to the average? Presumably the prices are based on averages.... There are lots of bad drivers out there jacking up average cost, in any country.

The meaning of “remotely decent” is there problem. Of course you can get a decent car for 12k. Just like you can afford to move out of your parents house after high school if you have roommates. People are less willing to settle for those things. To their ultimate detriment.
