You either have a magical dishwasher or magical circumstances, I can’t decide which. I don’t currently have a dishwasher (old house / kitchen with no space for one) but every time I have used one I find leftover garbage. Even this past winter, we took a vacation to Palm Springs and stayed in this super fancy mansion

I’m definitely digging through some paperwork to see if I can find any old VINs. If I can, it’ll TOTALLY be worth the 45 bucks. I think I have nine cars in my history... a few of them were “dead” when I got rid of them but you never know.... someone may have scooped up that ‘79 AMC Concord and decided it was worth

So glad someone found and posted this commercial.

I wouldn’t even think of it as a car. It’s not meant to be driven, it’s meant to drive you. The feelings that cars evoke in your are based on your control of them, their ability to do the things you want them to do (go fast, handle). These are meant to evoke something entirely different — comfort and ease.

Fear of British ‘craftsmanship?’ 😉

The TOp Gear brand kind of “owns” a lot of the format that went with it, so some pretty big changes are going to have to happen lest the BBC sue them.

I think you overestimate the requirements for most jobs, and the arrogance and / or ineptitude of many managers. You work in a pretty specialized field where a competent employee is critical, but a lot of positions just aren’t like that, and I think a lot of managers would rather not spend the time or effort. Right or

Ugh I had a friend of a friend who was a non-car guy. He was ALWAYS bumming rides from people, even vague acquaintances like me (I only knew him because I’d see him at group get togethers on occasion), but would still be all “why would anyone need a car?!” So fucking smug about it. I wanted to murder him.

I just had one the other day. It’s not the worst story, but still felt awful. It was a first phone interview for a job. I’ve been in the field 15 years or so, and phone interviews are generally pretty easy to get through. But this one the interviewer (who was the hiring manager for the position) had a thick Indian

Wow. So you’re obviously at one end of hte spectrum. Software / tech jobs are generally in the middle — 2-4 hours seems to be standard, with the occasional outlier that is either quick (1 hour ish) or long (6 hours). But I tell people about 3-4 hour long job interviews and their jaws drop because they’re used to 30-60

If you say so. You can certainly do it for much cheaper. If you want a decent stock and a nice design and all the reply and other cards in there, it adds up. Wedding costs are out of control but sometimes things just cost money.

I’m 34 and live in NH. I’ve never met a Zebulon (and if I have they introduced themselves as something else because that’s ridiculous). You either hang out at hippie communes or are just making stuff up.

That’s exactly what we did! Bought a house and had a backyard wedding. Worked out great, even though it poured most of the time :). Good luck to you sir.

I had a cheap in-my-yard wedding, but one of the things we did spend “normally” on were invitations, and $400 seems pretty reasonable. :)

To the guy who hates driving, depending on where you live, ther’es something to be said for buying a “fun” car. Cars nowadays are reliable adn comfortable and efficient and that’s awesome but if you hop into something you enjoy — it doesnt’ have to be FAST, just something that elicits a reaction from you in some way —

My first car was an AMC. I was in high school in the late-90’s and my dad bought me a 1979 AMC Concord. The thing was a brown rust-bucket, but I loved it. It had a straight six (not quite as bulletproof as I’m led to believe, considering it blew a ring) and a leak at the exhaust manifold, but it got me through most of

The nice thing about the Newman documentary is that Carolla is not in it at all. Aside from his name in teh credits, a casual viewer would have no idea he was even involved.

I’m sorry, I know people who owned that vintage Excel. Those cars were garbage. I’m really happy for you that you had a good experience, and you truly must lead a charmed life if that tin can didn’t give you any problems.

My first bike didn’t have an alternator by strict definition, but in practice it was the same thing (just far less reliable).

Yeah that’s pretty much what I was talking about.
