With CRAF (Civil Reserve Air Fleet ), the airlines are backup to the military.  

The FAA raised the retirement pilot retirement age to 65 back in 2007.

Also, airlines will not hire a pilot that has no ability to make Captain before he ages out.  So based on current fleet & seniority levels, pilots may need to be under 40 years old to be considered.

You are misinformed. Mandatory retirement is at 65. Also, regional airline pilots are getting hired as young as 21, some major airline pilots are hired at 25.

The bid for AF1 necessitated 4 engines. Airbus 380 was the only competitor with 4 engines, but would have been foreign built.

It’s the source of a decent amount of controversy. Trump decided to save money by sourcing completed but unused airframes, but that means the new planes won’t have in-flight refueling. 

I think the new Air Force One is also in queue. I guess it makes sense to use a tried and true airframe, but the Queen is showing her age.
