Visually, Am2R does look a bit nicer than Metroid: Samus Returns. Both games look like they’ll stand up on their own merits though.

But the Prime games were more than a mere “single player fps game”. It’s a 3D Metroid game (a franchise strongly linked to the metroidvania genre for some unknown reason) that just so happened to be in first-person rather than third. A Metroid game not belonging to the Metroidvania genre would frankly be quite odd.

Metroid Dread was supposed to be a 2D Metroid game. Metroid Prime 4 is Metroid Prime 4.

So the game has a diverse cast, everyone praises it for that, they then make a skin that represents more cultural diversity, and the one or two people who actually take offense to this lose their shit.
