Home Depot boxes? Talk about lifestyles of the rich and famous.  Steal your cardboard moving boxes from the local liquor store like the rest of us, asshole.

Doesn’t the team name pretty much have to be the Ex-Rays?

Nats fans buy Expos stuff.

Also somewhat worth mentioning that Montreal is a much bigger city with, I would guess, more corporate money floating around. It didn’t save them before but that was in one of the worst stadiums ever built. In a nice park I think there’s every reason to think they can at least be successful to the point of not being

Probably? MLB really digs the merchandising aspect of all of this. People still buy Expos shit and it’s been 15 years now.

So many questions. Let’s look at them in order:

Parade starts in Montreal, ends in Tampa. Half of Quebec makes that trip in November anyway.

So the idea is you don’t need a domed stadium in Tampa but they’ll potentially be playing their November games in Montreal? That should work out perfectly.

But what city would they hold the parade in when they win the World Series??!!

I am one of a handful (apparently) of fans who hopes a Spring league works some day. I was a Portland Breakers season ticket holder and had a blast. The collapse of the AAF was too soon, IMHO, to prove failure of concept, but failure of execution. Hopefully someday a league (XFL?) will have the resources to stick

What if this league would have actually gotten “legitimate” (no rich person is legit) funding? I feel like they would have made it through their season and would have something to build from next year. They were poorly run from the get go but the ratings didn’t suggest there wasn’t a chance. Football without gimmicks

NCAA could do this if it didn’t cherish “amateurism” so much.

Thing is, the USFL did not fail - it was actually a successful and pretty good spring league. It's just that a giant pissbaby intentionally ran the good thing into the ground as a way of showing his displeasure that the NFL wanted nothing to do with his shit.

This! I actually enjoyed the debut game and then... could never find another one. Nothing like forcing your audience to hunt for your product. “Oh hey, is there an AAF game today? Oh, it’s only available streaming on Bleacher Report? Yeah, no thanks.”

This is what the startups should be doing. Instead of focusing on retreads they should be attacking the NCAA. Hey Freshman or Sophomore or Junior, you can't play in the NFL but want to get paid? Play under pro coaches and pro systems while getting paid and no classes in the XFL! That's how it could work paying for

I still miss the USFL. There has to be one of us.  I wonder, had they stuck to their plan, would they have lasted another 5 years?

How hard can this be? There are available stadiums, labor, and TV ratings.

Drew you didn’t actually provide economic reasons why this would fail, other than that the latest version had scummy backers, and the other attempts were similarly afflicted, overly ambitious (USFL), run by insane people (XFL <—> WWE), were

smh. It’s pretty rich for a website with constant amateur “Let’s Remember Some Guys” videos to shit all over the professional “Let’s Remember Some Guys” league.

We already have offseason football, but Americans already don’t watch it. It’s called the Canadian football league and the only people who do watch it are Canadians. The CFL is funky and it’s kinda modern when compared to the NFL. The product on the field is pretty solid and the players know that they will get paid

Meanwhile, the Arena Football League is charging toward its 30th year of operation.  Which means it has outlasted the World Football League, the United States Football League, the first XFL, the UFL, the World League of American Football, and the AAF ... COMBINED.
