Lol. Where was the corrective pep talk?!

I did an out-loud “Yess!” when she took off running.
The two of them returning was like getting two kings back on the checkerboard. I don’t mind Chuck and Allegra, but this is the A-Team.
I feel somewhere in between Timmy and Shand on this branch. James Gunn was forgiven at Disney, after all. I’m all for putting a warning on a product. Quick warning before an episode or two of The Muppet Show. Great. Big whoop. It’s a product.
I have a feeling this show has the currant and one more season before hanging it up. So, that’s a factor.
I wanted a “Say goodbye to Jessie for me” or something to that effect. I’m thinking he’s going the way of Miller in the Expanse: Cavanaugh will direct a few episodes & then appear to Barry from time to time within the Speedforce.
La La Land got me 3 or 4 times. I almost started crying at the opening song because my hair was so blown back: These guys found the movie musical secret sauce - and here it is - mainlined.
The ending of Muppets Take Manhattan when The Muppet Show gang begins singing with the Sesame Street gang - and - I can’t help thinking that it’s one of the last things Jim Henson worked on. Aw hell, here’s the clip:
I should read that. It’s fresh on my mind from listening to Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History. His latest episode of Supernova in the East references Sledge’s book.
“A Life in a Day” from The Magicians. No explanation needed.
The last shot of The Pacific where the character Eugene Sledge is dealing with PTSD, he’s out for a walk, and he picks a daisy. As he twirls it you realize the daisy’s petals and shape are the same as the Japan Rising Sun.
A River Runs Through it ... a quiet movie with a grown-up message at the end. Not just “Live, Laugh, Love!” But a real, pointed, emotional and intellectual bit of wisdom that sneaks up on you.
The thing with Totoro is their mom is really ill, and nobody knows how things are going to turn out. The dad being so chipper, belies his stress. The girls need these forest spirits to visit - just in case things go sideways with their mom.
On equal footing for me is Goblet of Fire (I think it’s my favorite of the movies). The scene where Harry comes back with Cedric’s body. The oompa-music strikes up then...
That’s a triple whammy with Snape’s Memories, Harry and his dead friends/parents, and then Dumbledore. Boom, boom, boom - tears for a half hour.
Listen to the original recordings by Harry Nilsson. Altman & Co really took a chance on hiring this 70's pop song composer/singer to pen a musical, and troubled as the guy was, he really threw his whole heart into the project.
That’s a goose-bump scene for me.
Same with Grapes of Wrath. ‘Frickin’ movie was practically current events when it hit theaters.
I rewatched Glory last year when it made the rounds as a Marcus Theaters “Classic Series” movie. What got me - and they don’t make a big thing about it in the movie, is the shoes. The soldiers getting their shoes is such a big deal early in the film, at the end the Rebs are pulling the shoes off all the dead bodies.…
This had one of the best soundtracks to the MCU too. Maybe not a high bar, but they got way over the top on that one.
