Agreed, held as evidence for their eventual trail is fine, but seized and sold pre-trail is a dangerous precedent.  I’m as liberal as they come but this is not the way to do things.  

The only caveat I have to that, and I see this a lot unfortunately, is if the guy is in a mentor/boss/leadership role over the younger person meaning that there is a power imbalance that allows for the older person to exploit their role, even if it was in the past.
