Eeveryone I know puts mayo on ham. Try using mayo for grilling a sandwich in place of oil. Top with horseradish or sourkrout. 

Whether it works or not is not my argument here. It isn’t JUST pulling the already present vapors off the gas. It’s pulling air through the open tubes to the bottom of the can where it bubbles up and out, bringing more vapor/fumes with it.
