I tend to think of the 'magic' in Vikings as being details that have made their way into these histories in their retellings, that justify or explained things that couldn't be understood, or in the case of prophecies, give order to events (I certainly don't have any patience for us being meant to take it seriously).

The snake handlers shaking the snakes around in the air was a bit worrying too - I presume those larger ones we saw being dropped in were pythons and not venomous. I'm Australian, and we have it drummed into us practically from birth to never ever try and handle a snake, so that was really jarring.
