John's go-to plan has always been, "So we work the next number. It's what we do."
That, plus Finch was haunted by his early failures and always insisted that no number could be ignored.

Fascinating, thank you!
He obviously can't sell that to the FBI, but it must be really galling to have this mistake by other people be the reason for his expulsion, which I'm guessing is not a career-making move in the KGB.
I used to work with a Wayne Kerr.
Where where where? I can't find anything.
I hadn't picked up on that, nice!
She was great on Big Love.
In four short years he met his every goal
He seized the whole Southwest from Mexico
Made sure the tariffs fell
And made the English sell
The Oregon Territory
He built an independent treasury
Having done all this he sought no second term
But precious few have mourned the passing of
Mister James K. Polk, our eleventh…
In the pilot he was still off-kilter from his long undercover stint with white supremacists, so he probably wrote off his paranoia to that, and ironically wound up in a situation where he subconsciously ignores any suspicions about them because that initial suspicion seemed so wrong-headed in the light of day.
No wonder the kings of the Iron Islands haven't managed to make a mark on the rest of the world - they're all brain-damaged thanks to that whole 'Let's drown the new king!' idea.
Spot on, I hadn't put my finger on it, but yeah, Hood-as-sheriff was such a huge part of what I loved about the show.
Soooo…Hood just went to the police station at the end so he could nod to Brock. And then leave? Cool.
I was trying to remember if Hood has ever seen Burton do anything that would let him realise Burton is more than just a factotum and I can't think of any time he (or anyone he's connected with) has.
The MMA fighter one made me almost throw up the first time I saw it (I had, at the time I saw it, very recently broken my own arm and got to see a bit of bone pointing out, so that hand thing was too much). Thank god I didn't quit the show because of it.
This is making my decision to skip the reunion seem very sound.
Robyn now reminds me of Paul Reubens in Mystery Men: http://media.theiapolis.com…
That final shot of Chayton reminded me of the repeated scene from the Bourne films where Bourne is floating in the river and moves at the last moment; was totally expecting the same from Chayton.
I love his triple-winged eye-liner, very tempted to try that myself.
My best guess is it was meant to say 'split'.
