@vinod1978: it's not about the languages I think - i am pretty sure I read somewhere that one of the major problems is that not even converted apps are allowed by Apple. The app has to be developed in Xcode (I hope I got that right - my knowledge of that isn't that detailed to be honest). So you would have to develop

@vinod1978: But one of the major issues regarding Apple is that it forces developers to use certain tools. Or in your Costco example: I am only allowed to sell my toilet paper there if it is produced with the ToiletPaperBoy (TM) also sold by Costco. And if I already use the PaperMaker2000 for all other stores I am not

@Hvedhrungr: Actually no country can leave the EU as there is no law that regulates what would happen after the leave. The absence of such a law is on purpose as no country is allowed to leave the EU after joining it. And as there is no law no country ... I think we get the idea ;-).

@RedRaider: As the fined company is only fined because it makes a helluva lot of profit in the EU the money is actually EU money. It works also the other way round: Siemens got fined by the US SEC a while ago (for crimes commited in Africa - how about that?). Welcome to a borderless world of commerce.

I think the article should have explained a few more things ...

Here the fix btw:

@Tony Bullard Jr: 100% agreed! And the more developers stop submitting to Apple the higher the pressure to accept at least those who do. It would be a win-win situation.

@SeraphX2: I am pretty sure that f5 reloads with cache and ctrl + f5 flushes the cache and loads the page completely new. Therefore on slow pages you you will recognize quite a difference in the speed of reloading. While f5 gives you the page pretty quick ctrl + f5 can take a while.

I think the market should be a lot more like appbrain.com in terms of usability. I love the webbased install feature where I can browse on my computer an add apps to an install queue.

I don't know how severe North American mosquito bites are but for most bites I got in Ol' Europe I just rub a bit of saliva (yes, spit ...) on it and it is fine. Just resist the urge to scratch for two minutes then the effect sets in. I once read that there are actually anti-itching thingies in saliva, but don't

@sam4sb: works pretty good from here in Germany (and the last time I checked that was still Europe). Maybe the site got lifehacked ...

If I have an already pretty fast HTC Desire with tethering enabled (by HTC - maybe Germany/EU only?) and rumors have it that froyo will be delivered to it on June 23rd would you still recommend rooting it? Would I still have Sense UI?

@dangerp: you've got a nice icon? how? I only get the stupid default shortcut icon with a tiny favicon overlay.

@Lifehacker: please do not correct this great monkey typo! It's an instant classic. In fact it is so great I want to grab it and kiss it for a while. You are the best - even with typos!

I really liked the idea of webOS but somehow you can't compare the software without the hardware it is running on ... and I tried both the Pre and the HTC Desire. Guess which hardware won? Put webOS on a device like the Desire and we're talking. In comparison the Pre felt incredibly cheap and tiny.

While my wife (not as geeky as I am) prefers the iPhone I love my HTC Desire. In a not representative poll among her and me we found out: Both phones serve rather different groups of people: the iPhone is for the the ones who want easy-to-use and preconfigured devices and Android is for those who love to configure and

I use a partition for the system and another one for user data / profile. Both should be encrypted. If I use the method above can I still use this setup? Or is only the encrypted OS partition decrypted and the data partition later so that Windows is unable to locate the profile at log on?
