What is that first gif of? It looks beautiful

If you’re like me, it was the 20/40 vision ;-)

So I had the GI Joe F-14 Tomcat growing up. Had a lever you could pull to make the wings retract. It was the greatest God-damn toy ever. Made those commie Cobra bastards quake in their boots every time it came flyin’ round the house.

Yeah no agree sorta, being purist is the exactly problem. Barack, even thought he was an African American, ran a fairly centrist campaign. I think Clinton did too ... except for the fact that she was who she was.

wait wait wait. Mid 30's, married five years and still having sex 2-3 times per week?

Ugh. I don’t want to be alarmist, but assuming she lives in or around Seoul... I dunno. I’d be really tempted to tell them to leave, at least until things calm down.

I agree with everything you said expect this bit: “We cannot lose Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, either.”

....always gives me chills. One of my favorite song lines ever.

Boring? What? This was the most interesting tour in years. Hell, Aru gave him a run for his money before he fagged out (way after Sagan went down).

I feel like Quintana (quite aside from his decision to race the Giro) just hasn’t had the team to compete with Froome. I really, really want to see what Quintana can do on an even playing field, but I just feel like he hasn’t lived up to that first glimpse of greatness we saw in 2013.

My understanding is that most of the tuition increases have been driven by a massive building boom on college campuses (financed by debt) back in the mid-2000s. That, plus rapidly rising administrative costs and the affects of the recession have led schools to increase their margins the only way they know how...

COTD, crying from laughing, thanks

Even the Gannetts and McClatcheys have kept the obit and classified entry local. The page design has been offloaded to regional hubs, but they’re usually in the same state or the next state over. Which sucks for the locals, but it is what it is.

There’s really two tiers of news consumer. The one you describe, who will share any old crap that conforms and reinforces their world view, and the ... discerning reader who values good writing and reporting. Unfortunately, there are exponentially fewer of the later than the former in any given market.

‘Is there any sane reason though, that local announcements and obits need to be written by someone halfway around the world?’

I’ll add a few:

‘The outrage that we would dare to ask for money for our work was overwhelming’ preach brother preach

Not to be a dick, but not really no. The soviets were doing these kinds of back-2-back launches back in the ‘60s and ‘70s with the 1st gen Soyuz.
