Technically you don’t have to complete any zones unless you need that lvl110 right away. I leveled a mage to 98, got my artifact and then did invasions and at some point follower missions for huge xp gains. Took a week of less than 1h playtime/day. nobody said that, but thats what competitive gaming in quake was all about, at least for a decade.
