My SIL kept her husbands last name after a terrible 3 year relationship with a kid. It makes me sad whenever I see her name pop up because her husband was truly awful

This is what I did. Went from 8 to 4 letters. I would never change to a name more difficult than my own. But I kept my own name as my middle name and use it in most correspondence.

It’s weird to change your name when you get married. But it’s convenient when you have kids I guess. I know a bunch of people that chose/made up new last names. One was Sacifrage which is a type of wildflower but pretty long & another combined without hyphens to a 15 letter last name which I would hate.
