My dad has a 2010 A3 TDI with something like 80K on it. We had a proplem with the EGR vlave building up carbon. needed cleaning once at 35k, once at 70k. Not an issue.

VWs moving bits have been great usually, its the electronics in the early-mid 2000s that were scarey. Now, they are dead reliable.
