Unplug the waffle iron after using it and wait a few minutes. While it’s still hot, put a damp paper towel in it and close it. It’ll steam clean itself. You can brush out any bits of stuff still in there with a silicone brush. Mine’s a non-stick one, so easy to clean up to begin with.
