I’m a lifelong motion sickness sufferer, with a side of anxiety-induced nausea. My recipe for vomit free success is a combination of Meclozine (sold as Less-Drowsy Dramamine and Bonine) and GinGin lozenges. The Meclozine directions say take 1-2 tablets per day, starting one hour before travel, but I’ve found that it

Ugh. Have you seen the commercials from Walmart imploring us to use a green light bulb to show a sign of support for veterans? Seriously, if you want to support veterans, how about you save the light bulbs and donate the money to an organization that actually supports veterans.

I saw this trending on Facebook, but didn’t click through to get detail beyond Starbucks Christmas cups = people angry. I naively thought people were angry because it’s freakin’ November 8th, a good 2.5 weeks before Christmas cups should be an option... If Starbucks wanted to oppress the poor, underrepresented,

“put on hold” = inactive

Some of these are bad, but mostly they read like urban/suburban folks who just don’t know the realities of farming and rural life. Of course the cow was chained/tied to a tree - it’s standard practice to tie up a cow when milking by hand. Pigs bite, goats are assholes, and chickens can be gross. Fresh produce, like

Dialysis in a center is more like donating plasma, plus it’s “full service” so to speak, with dialysis techs and nurses taking care of everything. At home, you have to be on your game. It can go very bad, very fast if the wrong tube gets pulled.

Assuming you are a US citizen, then Medicare will pay for home dialysis. You have to have a family member or friend who can go through the training with you, and they have to be present throughout the dialysis process. From experience as the daughter of someone who did home hemodialysis for 5 years, it’s not great

Supply and demand is only an issue once a person gets on the list. UNOS can and will deny listing or put listings on hold if the potential recipient is a poor candidate. There are many reasons, including drug and alcohol dependence. My step father repeatedly had is spot put on hold due to chronic infections.

Thank you - I was wondering if I was crazy and just completely missing part of my childhood - “stop acting ugly” was applied equally to girls and boys, with the implication that shitty behavior made you unpleasant to be around. I even remember explicit statements that “ugly” behavior would always trump physical

This actually opens up some significant medical risks. Generally speaking, it’s legal to pay people for blood or blood products (i.e. plasma), but those products can only be used for research, not for transfusions or medical treatments. There are a lot of reasons that can contraindicate a blood donation from medical

I’ve really only used the DC metro as a tourist, and from that perspective it is much nicer than other systems in the US. I totally get what you’re saying about the frustrations for a daily commuter, but DC is still better than a lot of places. As a car-free Baltimore resident, I’m incredibly jealous that you have

You don’t walk much, do you? A 10-12 minute mile is a steady jog for most people. 20+ minutes is more reasonable for walking a mile, especially in a city. You have to factor in time waiting for traffic signals, and possibly hills. I routinely walk from my apartment to the train station, exactly one mile away. It takes

So, were you there? Or did you read that somewhere? If you read it somewhere, mind sharing the source?

The bag thing only applies to international flights. Flights in the US can and do depart with baggage for passengers who aren’t on the plane for any number of reasons. More than once, I’ve volunteered my seat on an overbooked flight, and my checked bag always stays on the plane, so it’s ready and waiting in the bag

It’s especially maddening when you consider the #1 “explanation” for the pay gap - women take time off to have kids.

Oh, I know. I’m from rural NC, and have what I like to call latent redneck tendencies (dialect and food related, not political/social). I grew up on the water, and spent most of my spring and summer breaks fishing. It’s one of the reasons I’m pretty passionate about keeping waterways clean.

My grandfather was so sick of Spam and rice, refused to eat either again until his death in 2001. 56 years without Spam is unremarkable, but 56 years without rice is serious business.

And it’s so much “better” now than it was a year ago, thanks to the trash wheel at the mouth of the Jones Falls.

I love Spam Musubi. I have a can of Spam in my pantry, and have been planning to make my own musubi, but never get around to it. Plus, I only need to each 1 (maybe 2) on occassion, and definitely not the 6-8 I would get from a can. My first thought on seeing the Spam treats was making Spam onigiri.

Oh God the plastic... I spent three hours cleaning up part of the shoreline around Ft. McHenry with a group from the National Aquarium. There were about 100 volunteers, and we filled 2-3 50 gallon bags per person. That was from only 1/2 mile or so of shoreline. Most of the trash was styrofoam cups and plastic bottles.
