They're most likely better than internal and external hex. Designed to not cam out.

And you skip the burrito that morning as well.
Which might help with the wheel structure instead of as a light weighting measure. Too easy to poke fun at the included socket though. Read the Torx wikipedia and geek out :)
Do you know what the word “analog” means? I think you missed the point and made some weird assumptions. I didn't mention anything about the best driver's car or my take on diagnostics. My Alfas are not what I would consider analog...all fuel injected, never in need of tuning.
"Because unlike with many cars, merely being in the AMG GT’s presence gives a sense of occasion."
Torx head actually allow for higher applied torque in a given socket head size. Which...is ironically offset by the inclusion of the torx socket in the car.
Fuel injection? Check. ESC? Check. OBD? Check. Nav? Check. Sounds analog to me.
An surprisingly affordable suggestion: give everybody a Pontiac G6
A lesson to us all: follow the manufacturer’s torque spec on the oil drain plug. Deviate more than the allowable +/- 3 Nm, and you practically invite annelid interlopers.
Any plans for cars and coffee? I'd like to see this thing.
Nice piece, and nice photos. I’ve been to STPR 3 times and never got the connection to death that you seemed to draw from it. I’ve always picked up that following WWII, race fans were still obsessed with watching their heroes narrowly escape death, and that that obsession has waned with time. Was there ever a time…
“Provided Andrew Collins and I" Indirect object, it's "me". I'm more impressed with them sending 7 running concepts to Moab than I am with your conventional-unconventional take on their work. Copy editing is presumably simpler than dropping a Hellcat engine into a Wrangler. Glass house?
I’m making an educated guess having worked development at multiple OEMs on higher powered and higher sales volume engines. But, I think you are right that it’s low risk for most people - that still doesn’t negate the fact that I’d be more confident running the M2 at the track. The average M2 driver is likely to take…
Quite an assumbtion.
It's not so much a lack of durability on Dinan's part (I'm sure they did plenty of solid testing), but BMW putting an M2 badge on the car all but guarantees that they did their due diligence testing the durability. Any failures are likely cooked into the warranty calcs or just mistakes. I see it as more of an…
Safe assumption. David Tracy should know this.
True, but the M2 provides a bit more assurance against blowing up. Also, higher blowby from the extra boost = more oil on valves and faster carbon buildup - I'm sure the M2 took this into account - did Dinan? Hot shutdown in CA after lapping the track? The M2 is designed to deal with it - how many turbos did Dinan…
Right - which is why the M2 makes sense from a durability standpoint
