Great performances, terrible editing and writing. The tone is all over the place (the audience in my cinema laughed at the sudden rape scene), the stereotypes are hackneyed (what's worse: the inspirational mentally disabled boy or the hil-AR-ious man wearing women's clothing!), but Kate Winslet gives a great Aussie

I can't really put into words how much I disliked The Dressmaker. I saw it a couple of months ago in Melbourne and the audience was chuckling along merrily at the rape and murder scenes, and solemn during the asinine character deaths.
