I'm fine if there is a review of the pilot and then an extra paragraph referencing the fact that the writer has also seen the next couple episodes and has [x] opinion on them. I just think doing the initial review on three episodes when the general public won't have access to episodes 2-3 for a couple weeks is a

Why is this recap about the first three eps, exactly? Just review the pilot. It's all anybody can watch right now.

His comment re: the last 15 minutes are in regards to Episode 3, not the Pilot. (This review covers Eps 1-3). That is, of course, completely unhelpful to us readers who cannot watch the next two episodes for awhile. It's not the first time I've seen the AVClub do this. Just do a write-up on the pilot episode, please.

Depiction does not equate to endorsement. The film doesn't have to have the characters outright verbally condemn torture or be punished for their actions. It's a story that shows the CIA agents as they very likely acted and believed, but that doesn't mean Bigelow is endorsing their actions at all. And as many have

I'd have to see it again to be sure but I believe there were three helicopters at the base and when one of the two on the mission crashed, they sent the third to pick up the remaining guys. That's how I saw it anyway. You see when they return to the base that there are three landing spots but one is empty.

That's normally the case, but this was moved specifically to allow time to remove a scene of a shootout in a movie theater in response to the Aurora shooting. They shot an entirely new sequence to replace it. If that hadn't happened this film would have been released on schedule.

They showed a death certificate (fabricated obviously) for Jack Sylvane in the pilot. And though they haven't outright said it in every case, I'd imagine that we're supposed to presume that all of these prisoners were declared dead at some point after they were 'transferred' off of Alcatraz.
