37 year old father of two from Minnesota here. Jacob Wetterling’s abduction changed the lanscape of my childhood. It did that for a lot of kids. He wasn’t an urban myth. He was a kid riding his bike with his brother and a friend when he was taken. After Jacob Wetterling went missing, the world looked really different

I couldn’t stand the Oprah Winfrey Show, but I remember a suitemate loved her and I think I watched that episode. The law enforcement expert said never let them take you to a second location. I’ve never forgotten that.

Dont forget the redlining that created many of these communities post WW2

Another facet of this issue is the people who move out to such areas to live in giant but affordable houses. Some of them keep working at places along the coast, so they drive hours every day. We have many of them at our company and I can conclusively state that their souls are dead.

Rural Southern California is scary. And I’m from rural Appalachia so that’s saying something.

exactly. and one kid had the other kid’s passport. i’m guessing these kids were messing around with each other’s paperwork on the plane and had something to do with this.

In the story in my head, the two five year olds swapped their documents. Because having hung out with kids that age, i can picture it super clearly.

Did the mom at least give the new kid a chance? Maybe he was much better than her own kid! Upgrades!

There’s some shenanigans going on here. Every time I see an unaccompanied minor on a flight, they have lanyard around their neck with their ticket and such. I think they even have a wristband. On an international flight, they’d have their passport too, right? So that’s 2 if not 3 layers of ID plus all the flight

This is bad but my first thought was “finally a father’s bad parenting is getting some outrage.”

A little off topic, but still Trump-related: Is it only obvious to me that Trump wrote his doctor’s letter then had him sign it?

Sadly, I’ve never seen Shameless, but Netflix really wants me to. It’s about Chicago? Is it good?

We’re having tons of breakins, car thefts, etc. in my area and police are useless. I had my place burglarized and my checks stolen several years back. A woman with a very unusual name cashed the check. Googled her found out her place of employment and social media pages. Shared with police. They did nothing. I am at a

In other words, many black cops are very busy trying to prove to their white counterparts that they’re blue first and black second.

I’m sure some cops do disagree with the constant ticketing they have to do for nonsensical reasons but what they’re doing can be really destructive, especially in poor neigborhoods. They’ve managed to make criminals out of poor people who can’t afford to pay the ridiculous fines for lifestyle “crimes” like jaywalking

In fairness, the exact same thing happened to me in New York when I tried to report my phone stolen. The policeman, who looked like he had a huge dip in his cheek, mocked me and basically blamed me for having my phone in my hand when it was stolen. This article could have been from any number of places.

I am curious. Do your parents think the police respond to all calls like that? Because I bet they do. People with white privilege think that because something doesn’t affect them, it doesn’t affect anyone. I bet, based on this experience, your parents think everyone who calls the police gets that kind of response. Is

I don't know this artist or where he live, but after the first few sentences I knew this had to be Chicago. It took a lot of guts for this young man to do what he did, because he already knew how he would be treated. I could have told him how he would be treated. He knew. I'm glad he walked in there and got footage.
