I’m not convinced that Lucid has anything that any other manufacturer couldn’t replicate. I think this “news” is just the PIF / Aston / Lucid teams trying to create some hype around two companies that are struggling to survive. Standard skateboard-style battery / chassis? Check. Batteries supplied by Panasonic? Check?

Pagani makes fewer than 50 cars a year. It’s not remotely comparable to what Lucid is trying to do. Ferrari produced more than 13,000 cars in 2022, by way of comparison.

I get this, but the article the writer links to when he makes the bizarre comment about the Stinger being too cheap is about heavy discounts being offered to shift them.

Sorry, buyers were turned off by the low price? Isn’t it more that buyers didn’t want to pay that much for a Kia, so the only way they could move them was through heavy discounting? So when you say buyers were turned off by the low price, you mean they were turned off by the high price...

Hard pass. Very expensive to run and maintain, and this one is in the wrong colour with a very rough looking interior.

Or maybe they could actually treat their drivers like human beings. As traumatic as this story sounds for this passenger, the issue isn’t bad actors driving for Uber and Lyft (although obviously there are some), but a dehumanizing business model that we all turned a blind eye to because of our need for convenience and

The North American market is only getting the All-Terrain exact same version of the brand new Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon, but with ugly plastic cladding and the same precisely zero off road capability as the regular wagon.

I think it’s worth it just because of the looks. The Civic Type R looks way too fast and furious for anyone approaching my age, and the Acura is just so much more subtle. It’s a low rent version of paying a premium for a mechanically identical GT3 Touring because you don’t want to be seen with the giant wing on the

Don’t you need to consider the battery size for this to be meaningful? The Lucid Air has a 118 kWh battery, and charging slows as the battery gets closer to being fully charged. The Air GT has an EPA range of 516 miles, so adding 208 miles is only charging 40% of the battery (i.e. it should still be charging at a very

The PDK is objectively better than Porsche’s 6-speed and 7-speed manuals, but I still prefer a manual 911 to a PDK. The argument is not that manual is objectively better, it’s that some of us like the closer mechanical connection with the car. I grew up in the UK only driving manual, and didn’t even drive an automatic

I may be in a minority here, but I just don’t think the 928 has aged well. As a kid I used to lust after a GTS, but now the entire model range looks like a failed experiment in the future of the automobile (which is I guess what it was for Porsche, since they abandoned the plan for it to replace the 911).

I’ve heard many, many people say they would love a Rivian, even if they know it’s priced way out of reach. I’ve heard very few people say they want a Lucid. Rivian managed to build a truly aspirational product, Lucid didn’t. Not that the state of Rivian’s business is any great model to emulate, but at least they have

Same people who think a pound of feathers weighs less than a pound of steel.

Terryifying.

Are people’s math skills seriously so bad that it’s a surprise that a $60k vehicle financed over 60 months at an interest rate greater than zero is more than $1,000 / month?

EVs really don’t have anything like the differentiation that ICE cars do. Not simply because they are all quiet and linear in their power delivery, but also because they’re all pretty heavy. You can spend more money disguising the weight of an EV with advanced suspension, but you can’t create something that truly

I know that’s Fiat’s reputation in Europe, but they could easily remake themselves here. The target buyer really knows nothing about how Fiat is perceived in other markets, and the car is objectively very stylish and appealing to the equivalent of the market who loved the MINI at its launch.

Later down in the thread, he says that the Model S is five years old and only has 30,000 miles, which means it would have a heat pump and would be the same vintage as my 100D. I did plenty of -15 celsius drives and never saw anything like this kind of range degradation.

First gear: Properly marketed, the 500e could do really well in North America. They basically need to position it in the same way that BMW launched the new MINI in 2002, making a virtue of its limitations. There is no other stylish, small, affordable EV available in North America, and this has a chance to be it. A lot

If someone’s prepared to lay out over $80k for a hot hatch, they should just take it to the next level and get a Carrera T.
