If a brownie or blackie does it: CRIME! If whitey does it: TRAGEDY or DISEASE!

I’m going to guess these lovely people also oppose abortion, because protecting “babies” is of utmost importance right up until the moment they’re born.
So... wanting a movie about Egypt to actually reflect the diversity of Egypt in its Antiquity can’t be done because of a portion of the American moviegoing public?
Yes, but the point is that Egypt was diverse. It wasn’t monolithically white or anything, really.
I remember when I was in high school, my history teacher (Ancient Civ.) told us that ancient Egypt was part of the Mediterranean world. She went on to describe how Egypt had more in common with Rome and Greece than sub-Saharan Africa. I tuned out at that point. The attempt to erase the African from any historical…
but can cast of the movie walk like a Egyptian??
I mean if a white Scotsman can’t authentically play a God of Egypt...WHO CAN?
Yeah, my mom (who is white and usually doesn’t noticed these things) turned to me and said, “Are they...they’re all white. You saw that, right?”
I saw a preview that had a woman who looked like she could be Middle Eastern. It also looked like she was the villain. See, they can cast people with a darker complexion as long as they play the bad guy.
Only when it invalidates you. Only then.
Wait... after years of being told on this site that as a Middle-Easterner, I’m just “white,” I’m not white now?
I suspect so as well, as it’s almost hilariously unoriginal. I don’t necessarily think the two are completely unrelated, though. Casting problems seem to pop up a lot in movies that are otherwise lazy or cliche or condescending to the audience.
Analyst Jeff Bock says, “This is on target to be one of the biggest box office belly flops of 2016. They didn’t greenlight this film with the thought of having one film. They greenlit it hoping to get three films out of this.”
I strongly suspect that this movie was doomed to be a disastrous flop regardless of the skin colors of its cast. The poor casting just amps up the schadenfreude.
I saw the preview for this at the theater a couple of months ago and it was distracting, really distracting, how white the cast is. Like make me angry distracting. No black people, no Arab people, it is seriously white. This is not how Egyptian Gods look, damn it!
“From the long-term prognostication team that brought you the Green Lantern trilogy!”
Bad news for historical epics. I’m beginning to lose hope I can get funding for my upcoming Shaka Zulu biopic . And that’s with Miles Teller already attached for the lead.
