@Kenny Powers: ... why? When are you ever going to need a year of food for your home?

They're just appealing to the perpetually-paranoid demographic that's making the cost of 9mm and rifle ammo shoot through the roof the last few years.

@richard.cosgrove1: Open sourcing the code doesn't necessarily help, because you've still got to have servers to store and sync the data. That's where the real costs come into play.

@DirtyDogg: So, if it's not perfect the first time, don't bother trying? Nice philosophy.

@The Dewd: Um, it can still do that.

@Dracoster: Try that argument in modern society. It may not result in punishment by law, but you can believe it'd result in serious social repercussions if word got out.

@Platypus Man: Bread is boring by itself too. But there are so many things you can do with it to make tasty meals, you'd never consider going without it entirely, would you?

The advantage is: $20 / month for wireless email, Twitter and Facebook updates.

@Akitsu: Y'know, I'd have been fine with a "not faithful" adaptation. Heck, the robot designs really weren't that bad.

I can't wait for someone to claim they choked themselves on a neck pillow by trying this. :D

@comrade_leviathan: Facebook wasn't marketed solely to geeks, though. It was marketed to trendy college students, built up a base there, and then marketed to the world in general.

@jdale: I doubt Disapora will gain a following outside small circles of fellow geeks. It's just not marketed at general folks, so they're not going to sign up.

@Adam Twork: I'd have to take my cat to a vet a couple hours away to get the chip implanted. None of the local vets can insert them, they can just read them.
