I gots noooooo problem with that call. Quite frankly, that’s obstruction under the old rules, too. You can’t reach out and tug at the limbs of opposing players.

This would’ve been against the rules last year too. Or even 9 years ago! During the 2007 Mets collapse, Marlon Anderson reached his arm to interfere with the defender (even though he was within reach of the base), and the same exact call was made.

Pretty simple application of the rule. He made contact with the fielder, but it wasn’t a consequence of his slide. Maybe he shouldn’t reach his arm out for no other reason other than trying to trip the fielder (and possibly break up the double play), and they’re up 4-3.

Was it ever legal for a guy sliding into second to grab the foot of the fielder?
