The current generation of EVs are better for the environment in the same way that houses built with asbestos and lead paint were better than caves. Yes, there’s some serious drawbacks that need to be figured out, but at least we’re heading in the right direction now.

I disagree. The “problem” of jaywalking is something that self regulates very well. If you are good at jaywalking you get to continue jaywalking. But if you are bad then you won’t continue for long.
