Tebow was a great college player and measures as an elite athlete. He just doesn’t have elite pro skills (like throwing a football or hitting a baseball). He never got the passing thing down but if he can fix his swing he can be useful.

The 19 year old has taken more lifetime BP reps than Tebow. Maybe Tebow’s at his peak athletically, but at least you know that’s a pro-athlete caliber level. You don’t know that about the 19 year old hitting .176.

He did play in the NFL and lead a team to the playoffs. I mean, yeah, he’s clearly not good enough to play QB at the NFL level, but he was there long enough to build on his name and everything.

Well he’s also an amazing physical athlete. He’s familiar with the rigors of pro sports. He’s paying for his own training and can afford to hire the best individual coaches and not have to worry about making money in another career.

I played college football in the Pac-12. We made a bowl 4 out of the 5 years I was there. We made 1 BCS game, which we definitely wanted to win bad. The main perceived benefit to the coaches of the other “meaningless” bowl games was always the extra practice time for underclassmen.

He probably is still #3. Look at the draft projections every year during the season. It’s all guys who are putting up huge stats or are stars for a big program.

What coaches do you see badmouthing players? It rarely happens. Coaches are happy when their players are top 20 picks. It helps with recruiting, at the current school and future schools. And having the player not play in a “meaningless” bowl game provides a built in excuse for not winning. At the college coaching…
