Not necessarily a hobby. The hotel I stayed in last week had full TV/Internet mirrors in the bathroom. Given the crappy wifi and faraday-cage-like construction of the place, it was awesome. I am sure they did not hesitate to pay four figures each for them. Someone is going to make a killing on these.

Ulysses is awesome, and I have a dozen report drafts going in it right now. But why do you equate it to Evernote? You can’t use Ulysses for organizing research in any useful way unless it is a text file—you still need Evernote or another clipping service to keep PDFs, spreadsheets and other research materials

Maps, but no compass? If you are really going off grid, I recommend a copy of Backcountry Navigator. Allows you to download multiple versions of maps to phone in advance, so you can have photo, terrain, road, USFS, etc. Can not beat being able to look at a google map shot of landscape close up before going into
