as a driver, I dread the arrival of autonomous/self-driving cars.

Being predictable is the most important thing. I don’t expect a car stopped in the merge lane. I don’t expect to move in the left lane and have someone not passing traffic. I don’t expect someone to come to complete stop to make a right turn. (Okay, I actually do expect these things because people are terrible…
