Indeed half her post indicates we shouldn't mess with nature, but the second half indicates that it is vanity that is the problem - a focus on physical appearance. Getting glasses and trimming fingernails aren't vanity but functional. If you're asking why she shouldn't "live up to her beauty" her point is NOT taken,

In Sikhism we believe that God created us all with the same privileges (both men and women). So there really is no need to 'look more feminine' and prescribe to random genderized norms.

In response to your last statement - why should she live up to your idea of beauty, particulary as she's offered a compelling reason for living up to her own?

Bathing, clipping your nails and brushing your hair can be done for cosmetic reasons but they are also done for sanitary reasons. Shaving is about conforming to society's standard of femininity and beauty. There are no health or sanitation reasons to shave other than to change your appearance.

These days it is so common to remove facial hair, etc. even for Sikhs. There is a smaller percentage that still do not, but it also depends per family. My grandmother used to remove facial hair, so I know that there is definitely no set punishment, esp. by society. I have plently of family members (male) that have

I'd like to point out that those alternate subreddits either don't exist, or if they do (I didn't check), they are intended to be "psuedo-subreddits" indicative of european_douchebag's view towards his initial posting.

these days most women from sikh backgronds remove their body hair, eyebrows, etc. it's only the baptized sikhs (about 10-15%) who are strict about following these guidelines. we don't have punishment for non-baptized sikhs, they're free to follow the faith as loosely or as strictly as they choose.

Her parents might be disappointed but in the modern world, no.

Balpreet Kaur's response is amazing, and european_douchebag has made...some progress, but it would've been better if he had not focused so much on harming the Reddit community, and suggesting that the problem isn't the ugliness of taking a picture of a woman like she's his own personal freakshow in the first place,

Most men who adhere to that rule where beards are concerned will 'roll' the beard so it is kind of bound close to their jaw-line, which keeps it nice and neat and out of the way. Others interpret the 'neat and out of the way' rule by meaning that trimming but not shaving the beard is ok.

Wow, this woman is amazing. I wish I had her self-confidence!
