I live in Vancouver but I’m in Portland every day for work. I think that’s part of why I like Claire’s stuff so much - I get the gist of where she’s shopping, etc.

I’ve only ever had luck starting yeast with a bit of sugar. I don’t really keep sugar in my house, so I’ve found myself stranded with yeast that wouldn’t bloom, and then used grape jelly out of desperation. It worked!

Beans - as a whole are cheaper for me to cook from dry than to get canned. I still get canned for convenience, but with a pot (I have an amazing metal pot I got at a yard sale for, no kidding, 50 cents), or a crock pot (yay Christmas present, but it wasn’t even a very expensive one), I can make a plain batch of beans…

I still use both soap and body wash, but I’m starting to think more seriously about using less plastic overall. I feel like I may be able to make soap into body wash (I used to be on Pinterest all the time and I think that’s a thing) and store it in an old pump shampoo bottle, or a glass jar possibly.
