No, I’m using left to mean ideologically to the left of Gorsuch, which describes whoever Clinton would have nominated to the bench.

Spousal rape wasn’t criminalized in the US until the 1970s and wasn’t criminalized in all states until 1993. And in some states since then it has been considered something of a lesser crime, though I don’t know what the status is today.
You don’t need to make a case that Clinton has republican-lite views. I just said her views are not aggressively right wing.
I can’t speak to every accusation, but you’re right that she was appointed to defend a child rapist. You may not be aware that in 1963 the US Supreme Court ruled that anyone who can’t afford legal representation will have an attorney appointed and paid for by the state, so someone was going to defend the man. If you…
I disagree that her views on war and finance are aggressively right wing. Let’s set that aside though because I’m not interested in defending her lefty credentials and I didn’t even support her in the primary election. My point is this: in the general election there were only two realistic outcomes, and if you think…
Worst comment ever.
Goddamnit Louis. You fucking asshole.
If you’re “left wing” and actually believe Clinton wasn’t a better choice than Trump, you’re either delusional or a liar and you’re not “left wing.” The vacant seat on the Supreme Court was enough of a reason to hold your nose and vote for Clinton. This isn’t a civics class or an ethics class. Elections have practical…
I wish he could have finished his last statement. A symbol of what?! A SYMBOL OF WHAT?!
Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
Over the last couple or so decades the right has understood how important stacking the supreme court is much better than the left. That’s why the religious right was able to vote for a depraved serial adulterer with no apparent sincere religious faith, who clearly wanted the job to satisfy his ego and gain some…
Souter isn’t likely to happen again. He didn’t have much of a record on conservative issues and while most nominees aren’t going to be extremely controversial the GOP is going to vet the hell out of any potential nominee. Souter was kind of an overcorrection to the Bork disaster and it backfired. Those fuckers may be…
I’m getting used to reading on my Kindle. It’s nice for really long books. If I’m reading in bed a 1000+ page hardback can be kind of a pain. I also like that I can switch between devices fairly easily with the app, so if I’m stuck somewhere with just my phone I can get some reading in.
Seems like some of this could be fixed with changes in the publishing industry. There are people who will always look for loopholes to make or save a few bucks. The internet of course makes this easier and more widespread. Industries have to adapt.
A video essay about VHS on YouTube?! Now I’ve seen everything!
I was reacting to the vitriol in your comment. You obviously disagree with her but you were a fucking asshole about it. It didn’t seem like a huge jump, considering how mild mannered (though admittedly condescending) her statement is. And now, that coupled with your expectation for her to act with such deference to…
“I guess you can find racism in absolutely anything if you squint hard enough.”
Little known fact: he taught her how to read and write. So, probably.
“Or that librarian could keep her dumb fucking mouth shut”
Thank god I read that book in high school and got it out of my system relatively early.
